How To: Give Your Teeth a Spring Cleaning

Although Floridians enjoy gorgeous weather year-round, you might be tempted to do some spring cleaning as summertime approaches. Whether it’s finally taking down your holiday décor, tidying up your patio, or clearing out your garage, it’s important that you don’t skip over your oral hygiene regimen. With this in mind, keep reading for a few ways you can give your teeth a spring cleaning this year!

1. Wash Your Toothbrush Holder

Do you remember the last time you cleaned your toothbrush holder? If not, then that to-do should absolutely be added to the list! After all, it’s exposed to the same bacteria and germs as the other surfaces in your bathroom, which you don’t want getting onto the bristles of your toothbrush and, in turn, your mouth.

2. Get a New Toothbrush (or Toothbrush Head)

Naturally, you don’t want to put a dirty toothbrush into the now-clean holder – that defeats the purpose! Instead, purchase a new one so you can start the new season with a clean slate. If you don’t already use an electric toothbrush, consider using this as an opportunity to upgrade!

3. Check Expiration Dates

Just like you go through your pantry to clear out anything that’s expired, you should go through the cabinet in your bathroom. Oral hygiene products, like toothpaste and mouthwash, have expiration dates, so it’s important to dedicate some time to throwing away anything that isn’t good anymore.

4. Schedule Your Next Dental Checkup and Cleaning

Remember, even if you brush, floss, and rinse with mouthwash consistently, your oral hygiene regimen will be incomplete without a dental checkup and teeth cleaning every six months. If you’ve already visited your dentist this year, then you’re off to a good start! If you haven’t, then now is the time to get your next appointment on the calendar.
